Ava DuVernay distributes Ayanda South African coming of age drama in the US

Ava DuVernay, Selma director, and her distribution company, ARRAY, will be releasing  Ayanda, a South African coming of age drama in the US, specifically theaters in Los Angeles and New York.

Directed by Sara Blecher, Ayanda, tells the story of a young woman, Ayanda, who does everything in her power to keep her father’s legacy alive. She goes on a journey of self-discovery as she copes with his death even as she works at her father’s car repair shop. With love, humor and a few trials and tribulations, Ayanda grows in her identity while honoring the memory of her beloved father.

AYANDA takes us into a vibrant Johannesburg community alive with love and humor, risk and reward, tragedy and triumph. This film held its world premiere screening at the 2015 Los Angeles Film Festival winning the Special Jury Prize in the World Fiction Competition.

The film is set to debut in theaters in New York and Los Angeles this Friday, November 13. New York screenings will be held at the Imagenation Cinema Foundation’s Raw Space in Harlem. Get your tickets at imagenation-cinema-foundation.ticketleap.com/…/dates.

Additional screenings will be held in Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. Screenings of the ARRAY production will also be seen at the 2015 Vancouver International Film Festival, BFL London, and the Africa in Motion Film Festival.
